Whether you prefer walking, running, or cycling, Potkook’s trails offer a diverse range of experiences that allow you to immerse yourself in nature. Although our single-track trails are purpose-built for mountain biking they can also be used for hiking and running.
Our interconnected trail network provides approximately 25 kilometres of exhilarating single-track riding, perfect for a satisfying 2-3 hours of exploration:
‘Under the Radar,’ nestled between Potkook Lodge and the Radar station, offers a classic cross-country trail, perfect for beginners and seasoned riders alike.
‘Atlantic Highway’ serves as the gateway to Braam’s Playground, where you can connect to ‘Lynx’ leading to Corrie se Klim, Kilian’s Pass, and Nic se Pad.
These trails reward you with breathtaking descents into the valley, challenging climbs, unique rock formations, and the beauty of waterfalls and streams in winter, as well as the splendour of fynbos. You might even spot the Cape Leopard, Grysbok, Klipspringer, and various bird species along the way.
For the truly adventurous, the downhill route from Potkook to Aurora via the access gravel road presents a unique opportunity for a 1000-meter vertical climb back to Potkook over a 17-kilometer stretch. Along this journey, breathtaking views of the Atlantic and Sandveld unfold, and, on clear days, Table Mountain graces the horizon.
Another thrilling adventure takes you from Potkook down the mountain and around the western side of the Piketberge via Kapteinskloof. This route culminates in the now-famous 1000-meter vertical climb back to Potkook, offering 6-7 hours of excitement for gravel and mountain bike riding enthusiasts.
Additionally, we offer two purpose-built hiking trails, ‘The Hand’ and ‘The Mast’ providing breathtaking views overlooking Kapteinskloof and the Atlantic. You’re likely to encounter well-preserved rock art. Guided walks are available to explore these, or you can choose solitude and silence to immerse yourself in their mystery. Potkook’s trails offer a thrilling escape, offering something special to every kind of adventurer.
